About CapsuleEndoscopy.org
CapsuleEndoscopy.org is an educational portal for health care professionals that was inspired by international gastroenterologists in 2004. Today, there are more than 5,000 registered members worldwide and numerous Capsule Clubs online at CapsuleEndoscopy.org, dedicated to advancing PillCam capsule endoscopy—and to Teach, Learn, & Share.
Thanks to input from CapsuleEndoscopy.org members, we are completing a major re-design of the site to better meet the growing needs of today’s clinical practices and also maximize the latest Web platform technologies. Besides the new look and re-design, CapsuleEndoscopy.org members will enjoy more powerful features when accessing the site’s dynamic clinical content.
We welcome you and your contributions to the CapsuleEndoscopy.org community and invite you to continuously Teach, Learn, & Share.
About PillCam Capsule Endoscopy and Our Sponsors
PillCam capsule endoscopy provides physicians with natural images of the GI tract for direct visualization of the:
- Small intestine via PillCam SB for detecting disorders such as obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB), Crohn's disease, celiac disease, tumors and a range of other small bowel disorders
- Esophagus via PillCam ESO for visualizing esophageal varices and complications of GERD, such as Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal cancer
More than one million PillCam video capsules have helped physicians evaluate patients for GI disorders since Given Imaging introduced CE as a fundamentally new approach to examining the gastrointestinal tract. Unlike other diagnostic procedures for the GI tract, PillCam video capsules require no sedation and allow the patient to carry on with normal daily activities. PillCam capsule endoscopy’s wireless technology and advanced software enables gastroenterologists to better diagnose and more accurately treat patients—improving outcomes and raising the standard of care.
Capsule endoscopy has resulted in a “paradigm shift” in the diagnosis of GI diseases. Pioneered by Given Imaging, CE is considered to be the first innovation in gastrointestinal endoscopy in at least a decade. After introducing CE for the small intestine in 2001, Given introduced the PillCam ESO in 2004, the Agile™ patency capsule and the PillCam COLON capsule in 2006 [PillCam COLON not available for sale in the US] and acquired the Bravo® pH monitoring device in 2008.
In addition to the PillCam family of video capsules, Given Imaging's other capsule products include:
- Agile patency capsule for verifying intestinal patency
- Bravo, the only wireless, catheter-free, 48-hour pH test commercially available to assess GERD.
Given Imaging is committed to expanding disease applications through new product introductions, extensive clinical research, and sponsorship of important projects for health care professionals, such as CapsuleEndoscopy.org.
